Breastfeeding
professionals can be described as educators, researchers, writers,
councilors and consultants. The most common breastfeeding professional
term is a lactation consultant, however registered nurses often
have some knowledge of breastfeeding and some of the greatest writers
and councilors of breastfeeding are woman who have the title of
MOM.
Lactation Consultant
- Often a lactation consultant is referred to as a IBCLC, International
Board Certified Lactation Consultant. A lactation consultant may
be employed by a hospital or birthing center to assist new mothers
with breastfeeding or they may practice out of their own home and
make appointments as well as house call with mothers needing assistance
in breastfeeding. A lactation consultant may also work in a government
health office, such as a WIC office, or for a breastfeeding helpline.
Lactationist is a common shortened and improper term for a lactation
consultant.
