Some
Breastfeeding Tips
Establish
a Comfy Nursing Spot
Consider having a main nursing area, while this isn't a requirement
for happy nursing it can be nice. Usually having a rocking chair
in your living area or bed room or both is great to use as your
nursing area. Keep a book or two near by it, to read during the
time that you are breastfeeding. A great book choice to keep nearby
is a breastfeed book. If you can choose an area near a phone in
your home that will help. Try and keep some pillows near the area
if you use pillows to prop your arms better while you are nursing.
Make
Sure That Baby is Latched On Well and Nursing Effectively
If you can hear your baby swallowing breast milk as they breastfeed
and they are position facing you, without having to turn their
head to reach the breast, and right up to the breast than they
should be able to latched on properly without putting extra strain
on the nipples.
Remember
to Graze, Snack,Through out the Day
It is important to eat healthy while you are breastfeeding. Keeping
up with three square meals may seem challenging at first but with
planning and help you can do it. Snacking though out the day is
important too though, fruit is only one example of a quick and
healthy snack to eat while you are breastfeeding.
Keep
Water Near By and Stay Hydrated
It is important that as a breastfeeding mother that you stay hydrated,
so always keep a glass of water near by. A thermos is great especially
to you to keep curious hands from reaching in your water.
Do Not
Be Afraid to Ask for Help and Don't Feel Bad When You Do
Although breastfeeding isn't a tiring activity when your babies
are young they nurse a lot and sometimes it takes a while for
both mommy and baby to get the hang of nursing. If you feel overwhelmed
by other things you want to do ask for help, as a new mom it is
totally expected and acceptable.
Don't
Watch the Clock
Scheduled feedings lead to breastfeeding challenges that neither
baby nor mommy want. If you have a clock near where you nurse
don't worry about timing the feedings, as this could lead to limiting
feedings which is never a good idea. However many moms find that
it is nice and comforting to know how much their baby is nursing
and like to time feedings but don't restrict them.
Nurse
on Demand and Offer Often
The best way to tell when your baby is hungry or wants to breastfeed
is to nurse on demand. Anytime that your baby gives a cue that
they want to nurse, nurse them. If it doesn't seem as they are
interested and it has been two hours since their last feeding
offer them the breast and see if they remember that it is feeding
time.
